 Not every person's favorite hobby is watching horror movies, is it? Some though enjoy the thrill that comes with watching horror movies, the tension, the trouble, the anxiety etc all contribute to a scary movie experience. One of the cornerstones of a horror movie is although they are fictional, they should also make sense, if not relatable.

For every person that enjoys horror movie, there are probably three others who just hate watching them. For them, the horror is unbearable even though they know it is fictional. Imagine the sheer horror on their face if we tell them that all horror movies aren't works of fiction, some are based on true events as well!

10. The Exorcist

 In the late 1940's the Roman Catholic Church Priests actually carried out exorcisms of an anonymous boy documented under the pseudonym, Ronald Doe. Many people don't know this but the character of Regan MacNeil was built around Ronald Doe.


9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

 So you thought the lamps and necklaces made out of corpses were work of fiction? Think again. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by Ed Gein and yes the lamps and necklaces were real. 


8. The Girl Next Door

 The movie is based on the acts of Gertrude Baniszewski who tortured a girl named Sylvia Likens, ultimately leading to her death. 


7. The Amityville Horror

 In 1997 when an unsuspecting Lutz family moved into a house in which a person named Robert DeFeo killed six members of his family, they were in for a surprise. They reported several paranormal happenings in the house which ultimately forced them to move out.


6. The Conjuring

 The Conjuring is based on true events encountered by the Perron family. Upon noticing something unusual, the Perron family decided to call Ed and Lorraine Warren for assistance. The movie is based on the true encounters of Ed and Lorraine Warren. 


5. The Rite

 The movie is based on Father Carmine De Filippis who was known to perform an exorcism of a young possessed girl. In the movie, the character was named as Father Lucas.


4. The Exorcism of Emily Rose

 When in 1968, Anneliese Michel started to experience devilish hallucinations while praying, she was given to doctors and subjected to exorcism as she claimed to be hearing the voice of the devil. These events inspired the movie where  Anneliese was named as Emily Rose.


3. Annabelle

 Annabelle features a doll which looks nothing but innocent, terrorizing a family. However, the real version of the doll lies in Ed and Lorraine Warren's Occult Museum (who helped the Perron family) and looks a little less haunting. It was originally reported that the doll occasionally gets bloody and the Warrens couldn't find any explanation as to why it happens. 


2. The Haunting in Connecticut

 The movie is based on the story of Snedeker family who after just moving into their new house, started experiencing paranormal forces that would wreak havoc with their mind and bodies.


1. Borderland

Burning money and killing people while transporting drugs is one thing, performing human sacrifices is an entirely different thing, something Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo, the protagonist did in the movie and in real life.
