Most Bizarre Divorce Laws Around The World

You could be forgiven for thinking that the concept of marriage is the same all over the world. You could be wrong. However, the state laws have some pretty amazing variations depending on where you live.

It is well understood that divorce is never an enjoyable experience. But somehow both parties have to come to an agreement and follow the laws set by their country. But you may not have imagined that divorce is treated in a completely different way around the world. Divorce laws in some countries are extremely odd and in some cases, very unfair. Thus to be knowing about certain laws harms no one.

I know you'll feel stunned when you'll read about one law that says you can file a divorce against your husband when he doesn't bring you coffee in the morning. There are a lot of people out there campaigning in regard with abolishing some of these crazy laws. Nevertheless, we can take a look while these laws exist here in the world.

#1 Samoa

In Samoa, it is technically legal for a woman to file for a divorce if her other half forgets her birthday. Jeez, thank god I'm a woman because I forget a lot.

#2 Scotland

In Scotland (up until 1939) if a woman wishes to pursue it, a man would legally have to marry a woman after sleeping with her.

Seriously? I mean, were they drunk when they made this law?

#3 Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, a woman has 'legal grounds' for divorce if her husband fails to bring her fresh coffee every morning. I very well know that women like their morning routine, but filing a divorce on the failure of such, that's ridiculous.

#4 Colorado

In Colorado and Hartford in the US, an old law states that a man can be thrown into jail for scowling at his wife on a Sunday.

Oh, right! Shouting at any other day of the week is fine then? They may save their scowls for the time then.

#5 Delaware

An annulment might be granted in Delaware if one (or both) of the parties entered into the marriage as a jest or dare. Now I think this makes you wonder how many couples tied the knot after a double dare if the state had to produce legislation on the issue.

#6 Kansas

In Kansas, a woman can file for a divorce if her husband fails to get on with her mother. I mean what if he doesn't like the woman? What if her mother turned out to be very crooked. DIVORCE! As simple as that.

#7 Kuwait

In Kuwait, according to an ancient law, a man can be imprisoned and divorced for looking 'sensually' at another woman. But this isn't where it stops, he is also forbidden from looking lustfully at any female animal, and why not? A female is female whether a human or an animal. Stop gazing at them badly.

#8 Hong Kong

According to ancient Chinese law, in Hong Kong, it is legal for a woman to murder her husband if he is caught cheating. There's a catch for the scorned wife though; she can only kill him with her bare hands.

No weapons.

#9 South Carolina

South Carolina's Casanovas could face legal action if they propose to an unwedded woman to get her in the sack. The misleading promise of marriage could lead to charges under the Offenses Against Morality and Decency Act.

This looks great! Wish I was a citizen of South Carolina.

#10 Australia

Traditionally, if an Aboriginal woman in Australia wants to separate herself from her husband, she could try to persuade him – or she could just go right ahead and wed another man to immediately end her marriage. That solves that problem then, how sweetly simple.

That's all folks!
