Florist Delighting New Yorkers With Pop-Up Floral Arrangements

New York City is a stomping ground for all kinds of things. But a rogue florist? Now, this is surely something New Yorkers haven’t seen before.

Floral and event designer Lewis Miller has become known for the incredible floral arrangements he puts together for events such as wedding and galas, but he’s also gaining popularity with a broader audience because of the pop-up floral displays he’s been setting up all over New York City.

You never know when exactly these Flower Flashes, as the Miller team calls them, are going to happen, but you’ll know them when they do. Miller and his team have taken over some of the city’s most iconic areas, such as the famous “Love” statue:

And this “vote” display he set up in Washington Square Park last fall.

Central Park’s John Lennon memorial, Strawberry Fields, was the site of this stunning Flower Flash.

He’s even transformed trash cans into the “vases” for his floral arrangements, and it’s a truly beautiful sight for city dwellers.

In a blog post on his site Miller wrote, “Gifting flowers to New Yorkers is a simple idea that I have been thinking about for years. I am in the business of fantasy and flowers, and it’s my job to transform key moments in my clients’ lives into joyful, everlasting memories. I wanted to recreate a similar feeling for the everyday city-dwellers and tourists of New York City.”

And with these random displays of gorgeous flowers, he’s certainly making the ordinary a little extraordinary. His act doesn’t go unnoticed.

In his blog, he described the first time he and his team left flowers in the city on the blog:

“We had hoped for smiles, the ones that happen when you witness a random act of kindness. That was my goal, my vision. Create an emotional response through flowers. And in this age of social media, we saw the fruits of our labor and were instantly rewarded via Instagram! We got to see how our idea translated in real time with hundreds of selflies and photographs documenting the flowers throughout the course of the day.”

You never know what unexpected delights a day will bring, and Miller and his project are certainly great reminders of that.
