These Images Prove Why We Should Never Trust Internet

The Internet used to be our best source for information as well as news. Social media, however, is becoming the first place we get our news from. Everyone is on social media and anything posted there will spread like wildfire.  This is the reason for the rise of fake news and images.

Not just news and images but also videos and stories. If someone posts an image with a fake title sends it on the social media train, by the time it reaches you it will have been edited and made into a real news headline. Basically, we’re saying don’t believe everything you hear or see on social media.

Moon landing

This is an edited image of the Burj Al Arab located in Dubai. This luxury hotel is one of the world’s tallest hotels in the world. Built on an artificial island around 280m from Jumeirah beach, it is a target for many photographers. The image we’re seeing was edited to make the moon look like it was on the helipad of the hotel and bigger than the real moon should be.

 Just for headlines

War has been seen in many countries for decades and it doesn’t seem to stop. This gives photographers a chance to take some really heart-breaking images of a war-torn country. While many photographers risk their lives going into gunfire filled regions just for those photos of the devastation of war, there are others who take the easy way out. This image went viral on all social media platforms before the truth was revealed.

 Spiritual levitation

This image didn’t use Photoshop as it was taken in the 20th century and has never been retouched or edited. The man in the image is Colin Evans who acted as an early 20th-century spiritualist medium. Before the image was taken the room was dark and Colin jumped off a chair and while in the air took the image to give the illusion of levitation.

 Cottingley fairies

The Cottingley fairies were a series of five images taken by cousins Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths. In later years, the girls admitted the images were fake and cardboard cutouts of fairies were used.

 Black Lion

A white lion is a real thing. This happens to Southern African lions when they suffer from a rare color mutation. They are found in the area of Timbavati and have been sighted since 1938. What isn’t real is the black lion which was an edit where black color was edited on a normal white lion just to get some clickbait views.

 A fairytale castle

This is a stunning image in itself and looks amazing and like something we would see in a fairytale movie or sci-fi movie. On first glance we actually thought this could be real and that the rest of the mountain and castle may have eroded away in the ocean. But, the truth is this is an edited image made with the use of Photoshop.

 A bear after a cyclist

This image may look real or a staged image as this is a possibility and something that could easily happen. But unfortunately, this image is a fake and the cyclist was Photoshopped into the image of the road and bear. This definitely got attention and the edit is quite good.

 Women wearing shorts in public

This image gained popularity on Reddit as it was titled “Women wearing shorts in public for the first time causes a car accident.” Unfortunately, this title was false and the image in question was real but it was staged. If you look closely at the car you will see it doesn’t have a single dent or scratch and since this image was taken in 1937 when shorts were not very common but in fashion, this would not have been the public’s reaction.

 Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy

Ever since Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” on May 19th, 1962, the world speculated about the secret affair between the Hollywood star and the commander-in-chief. The September 11 attack still remains as one of the most horrific acts of terrorism on American soil. The attack killed 2,996 people as well as injured over 6,000 more.
